Walden Rhines Keynote: From Materials to Electronics and Back Again
The Nix Lecture Series is named in honor of William D. Nix, NAS, NAE, professor emeritus of materials science and engineering, and one of the founders of our department in its current form. This year’s William D. Nix Lecture in Materials Science took place on February 5, 2024. Our distinguished speakers were Stanford Professor Stephen Chu, 1997 Nobel laureate in physics and Secretary of Energy in the Obama administration, and Walden Rhines, PhD ’72, president and CEO of Cornami Inc. The lecture series aims to bring together our community of students, faculty, alums, and other professionals passionate about the positive impact our discipline can have in addressing humanity’s most pressing challenges, such as developing safe energy and a clean environment to support a healthy life.
