Wally Rhines: Pay Attention To People Around You
By Nitin Dahad – Thursday, October 19th
In this edition of Silicon Grapevine, we talk to EDA industry veteran Wally Rhines about his career and the excitement of his latest venture as CEO of Cornami. He explains how he got into his roles at TI and then Mentor Graphics, and the acquisition of Mentor for $4.5 billion by Siemens—and especially the discussion that led to this Siemens transaction. We also ask Wally about his inventions, and how he wrote two books during Covid.
He highlights how he was financially oriented in his youth and how his engineer father persuaded him to go into engineering. He also talks about his biggest achievements (clue: a single chip DSP), AI in EDA, fully homomorphic encryption and more. His advice to youngsters would be: “Pay attention to the people around you, hire people who are better than you, and don’t be afraid to take on challenges.”
