IEEE Fellow and Former Chief Scientist of Micron Brings International Industry and Technical Expertise to the Office of the CTO
Oct. 10, 2023 – Cornami, Inc. – Campbell, CA – Cornami (named for a “tsunami of cores”) announced today that Dr. Fa-Long Luo has joined the company reporting into the Office of the CTO.
Dr. Fa-Long Luo is an IEEE Fellow and an affiliate full Professor of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has over 39 years of academic, industry, standardization and research experience with emphasis on translating adaptive and intelligent signal processing techniques to practical applications and commercial products related to multimedia, wireless communications, and digital infrastructures. Dr. Luo has published 8 books and more than 100 technical papers including the well-received book: “Applied Neural Networks for Signal Processing” (Cambridge University Press) and “IEEE Best Reading Book: “Machine Learning for Future Wireless Communications” (Wiley-IEEE). Additionally, Dr. Luo has 115 USA patents (issued or pending), which have resulted in several successful new or improved commercial products in mass production.
“We are excited that Dr. Luo has joined the team,” stated Paul Master, co-founder and CTO of Cornami. “His experience and technical achievements speak to his ability to contribute to our mission of bringing a post-von Neumann scalable computing fabric to market. He understands how our unique technology enables encrypting computing at scale for complex data-intensive algorithms such as Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) and privacy-preserving machine learning (PPML). We are already benefiting from his expertise.”
“It is fantastic to see Cornami’s innovations,” stated Dr. Fa-Long Luo. “It is clear that the industry needs a next-generation scalable and programmable computing architecture to address complex post von Neuman algorithms – while also supporting the compressed market cycles for new features and software. I am very excited to become a part of the mission.”
Cornami’s software defined FracTLcore™ Computational Fabric can scale performance without penalties to deliver real-timecomputing for critical and complex applications. The company’s proprietary technology lowers power consumption and latency, while vastly increasing the performance for today’s massive datasets whether at the edge or the cloud. This includes, most notably, accelerating FHE for real-time computing on encrypted data sets, which is vital for data privacy and cloud security.
FHE allows for extracting intelligent data analytics without ever decrypting the data to expose the underlying plaintext data, whether it is intellectual property (IP), financial information, personally identifiable information (PII), customer data, intelligence insight, or beyond. The challenge to date is FHE is too computationally intensive to be commercially practical. The availability of practical FHE introduces a sea change to the cloud computing marketplace and the entire information processing industry. Today, it is impossible to guarantee hack-proof firewalls, secure operating systems, processors without embedded trojans, or internal risk from employees in computing environments. Privacy and data security become achievable goals with FHE, allowing for a wide range of services to become accessible while maintaining full confidentiality of the data, the application, and service results. Cornami can shift the paradigm to deliver this critical data privacy capability in real-time at market prices. This provides intelligent insights from valuable datasets including processing privacy-preserving artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) models.
About Cornami
Cornami is focused on the deployment of intelligent computing in real-time environments. The company has developed a massively parallel reconfigurable computational fabric to address the shift in computing needs for the ever-increasing massive datasets of today, and into the future. This game-changing, software-defined technology delivers unprecedented linear scalability from thousands of cores on a single chip to millions across a system to meet customer performance, cost, and power requirements.
